All of the pupils of E.M. Rollins Elementary School gathered at 10 a.m. Friday for the school’s big assembly to celebrate Black History Month.
The Rev. C.J. Dale of Burning Bush Christian Church began the assembly by speaking about how anyone of any race or ethnicity can be whatever he or she wants to be as a grown-up.
The Rev. Eddie L. Wright, a Vance County commissioner, backed up that point. He said that no matter who you are, you can do anything.
After the guest speakers finished, the kids played a Black History Quiz Bowl. The questions were about famous African-Americans.
Unfortunately, the assembly ran out of time before the game ended, so the fun and learning will continue at another gathering in March.
