Gunfire wounds man, endangers infanct


Bullets were flying in Henderson over the weekend, leaving one man seriously wounded and threatening, among others, a 7-week-old boy.

No arrests were made in three shooting incidents.

Police reports show that Alvin L. Somerville Jr., 24, of the 200 block of Davis Street was shot by an unknown man with a handgun in the 600 block of West Andrews Avenue about 7:25 p.m. Friday. His wound was serious but not fatal.

Officer D.G. Currin III responded to the shooting.

At 3:50 a.m. Saturday, someone fired a .22-caliber weapon into the house at 242 N. Clark St. The bullets caused $150 in damage to a window and three walls but did not harm the residents, who were home at the time of the attack. One of the residents is an infant, Tyrell Branch, who was born Feb. 11. The others are Elizabeth Clark, 44, and Samantha Hilliard, 23.

Officer D.J. Chavis handled the case.

At 5:30 a.m. Monday, someone fired a rifle into an occupied car in the 500 block of High Street. Larry Comer, 37, of the 100 block of Carter Street avoided any harm, but his black 1998 Mazda Protégé sustained $100 in damage.
