Vance hunting law passes House

The state House gave final approval to a Vance County hunting law Tuesday and sent the bill to the Senate for consideration.

The bill, H. 982, is now in the hands of the Senate Committee on State and Local Government.

Vance County’s two representatives in the House, Democrats Jim Crawford of Granville County and Michael Wray of Northampton County, sponsored the local legislation. Unless such bills generate local opposition, they generally advance easily as a courtesy to the legislators.

The bill would bar huting from, on or across the right of way of any road in Vance County that isn’t private. The same restrictions would apply to the firing of high-powered rifles for any reason.

The minimum penalty for a violation would be a $250 fine or 30 days in jail. The full text of the bill that passed the House is available here.
