Man wanted in two shootings

The Henderson Police Department is searching for a man charged in a pair of shootings.

Kendrick Darrell “Hitt” Hawkins is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the shooting Thursday of Tyrone Yancey at the Lincoln Heights Apartments. Yancey was critically wounded in the late-night attack.

Hawkins also is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in the shooting of Alvin Sommerville on April 1 at the Henderson Heights Apartments.

A news release from police Capt. Charles Crumpler described Hawkins as a 29-year-old black man who stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 150 pounds.

Facing charges in two shootings, Hawkins should be considered armed and dangerous, police noted. Anyone with information on Hawkins’ location is urged not to approach him, but to call the Police Department (Detective Division) at (252) 431-6062 or (252) 438-4141. Callers also may notify the 911 center.
