Show, Shine, Shag and Dine a success

Nancy Wilson reported to the Henderson City Council on Monday evening the success of the Show, Shine, Shag and Dine event that took place Oct. 14 through 16 in Henderson.

Wilson is the Vance County tourism director. She and an assistant are responsible for planning the annual event.

Before she began her remarks, Henderson Mayor Clem Seifert reported that it “looked good and was wonderful.”

Wilson said the show was “fabulous,” with 1,000 cars and 30,000 people in attendance. She told the council that ESPN2 was in Henderson to cover the event as well and that highlights will be aired at a date to be announced.

Show cars were parked by the downtown firehouse during the event. Wilson told the council that she hopes to use Breckenridge Street in the Embassy Square area next year as a venue for the automobiles. She also expressed hopes of attracting flea market vendors.

“The event generated a lot of money for this community,” Wilson said.
