City will condemn hate groups

Glean Henderson, the Publicity Chairman from the Henderson-Vance Human Relations Commission, read a letter to the Henderson City Council on behalf of the commission’s president, Janice Jeffries.

Jeffries was ill and unable to attend.

In the letter, the commission asked for the city council to adopt a resolution condemning hate groups within the city.

Henderson also asked on behalf of Jeffries for the commission and the council to meet on commission by-laws and how to refer problems to the the commission.

Henderson mayor Clem Seifert informed the council that the commission is chartered and has powers through the state. He recommended to the council that a resolution be drafted and that the commission review it.

Council member Bernard Alston announced that he had already begun work on such a resolution. City Attorney John Zollicoffer indicated that he had as well.

A motion to draft the resolution passed unanimously.
