Two arrested in shooting, other wanted

At 1:21 PM on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 Henderson Police were called to the 900 Block of Winder Street to investigate a report of a person having been shot.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located Kejuan Hicks, 17, of 1016 Lehman Street who was suffering from a gunshot injury to the upper back. Hicks explained that he was walking in the 800 Block of Winder Street when he was shot by someone in a motor vehicle.

The shot that struck the victim was said to have been fired from a handgun discharged from a car traveling on Winder Street. The suspect car was described as a blue 4-door vehicle followed by a white car that was perhaps a Toyota Camry. The suspects had left the scene and were not immediately located. Hicks was taken by ambulance to Maria Parham Medical Center for treatment of the gunshot injury.

Further investigation has resulted in an arrest on Friday, March 31, of Jonathan Lavar Jordan, 23, of 828 High Street. Jordan was arrested by Henderson police Detectives and charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He is confined in the Vance County Jail without privilege of bond.

Police also have warrants charging Xerxus Rashad Belvin, 27, of 1592 E. Coachway Drive and Roy Antwan Steed, 23, of 781 Vanco Mill Road. Each are charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Both are considered dangerous. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Belvin or Steed should not approach them but is asked to call the Henderson Police Department at 252-438-4141 or the local 911 Center. Crimestoppers will pay rewards up to $1000.00 for information leading to the arrest of these two. All information received is kept confidential. The Crimestoppers phone number is 252-492-1925. Detective A. D. Simmons is leading the investigation for the Henderson Police Department. Cooperative assistance in this case has been received from the Vance County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Franklinton Police Department.

Roy A Steed
Arrested shooting suspect Roy A. Steed.

Suspect Roy Antwan Steed, 23, of 781 Vanco Mill Road was arrested late on April 3, 2006 and has been charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder in this case. He is confined in the Vance Co. Jail without privilege of bond. Suspect Belvin is still being sought and warrants are on file at the HPD.
