Series of farmer’s markets to be held

The Farmers’ Market will be a collaborative effort between the Henderson YMCA, Maria Parham Medical Center, and the Vance County Cooperative Extension.

In an effort to promote healthier living, the Henderson YMCA, Maria Parham Medical Center, and the Vance County Cooperative Extension will be hosting a series of Farmers’ Markets beginning June 28th. The market will be held every other Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or until the produce sells out, and will be located in the YMCA parking lot near the track. The market will also feature health related literature as well as occasional complimentary blood pressure screenings when possible.

According to the American Cancer Society, eating right and exercising are important ways to help reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. An essential aspect of eating right is selecting a diet that includes a variety of fruits and vegetables every day.

By hosting the market, the Henderson YMCA, Maria Parham, and the Cooperative Extension are joining forces to encourage the residents of our community to increase their consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Speaking for the collaborative, Woody Caudle, Executive Director/CEO, Henderson YMCA, emphasizes: “We are excited about the opportunity to offer a Farmers’ Market to the local community. We hope by promoting healthy foods and our local farmers at a convenient location, everyone in the community will benefit. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this special program.”
