Changes to graffiti and truck ordinance coming

There Henderson City Council will meet tonight at 7:00 p.m. in their chambers at City Hall.

Here are some of the items of interest in tonight’s meeting agenda:

* Henderson Police Department Officer Harry Hartsell, who retired on October 18, will have his service weapon and badge awarded to him by the Council.

* The Council is expected to pass a resolution requesting the release of $350,000 in Senate appropriations for the widening of Chavasse Avenue.

State Senator Jim Crawford took credit for securing these funds at last Sunday’s Candidate’s Forum.

* The Public Safety Committee, chaired by Council member Lonnie Davis, will report on proposed changes to the graffiti ordinance and the truck ordinance.

The graffiti ordinance has generated considerable debate regarding enforcement and who will bear the burden of cleaning up the graffiti. The truck ordinance was scheduled for review by the Public Safety Committee when a local trucker brought his citation under the ordinance to the attention of the council at the last council meeting.

* The Land Planning and Development Committee, chaired by Council member Bobby Gupton, will report on the disposition of the Armory, city-owned properties, and the disposition of the former library on Rose Avenue.

At the last City Council meeting, City Manager Jerry Moss was directed to request a cash offer from the County for the city’s share of the jointly-owned property. This would separate its disposition from that of the Armory.

* City Manager Jerry Moss will report on his contact with County Manager Jerry Ayscue regarding the solicitation of an offer for the former library on Rose Avenue.
