Wednesday’s open line

Phil Lakernick, the recently hired Director of the Downtown Development Commission was nice enough to call us yesterday and explain that what is commonly termed the “Christmas Parade” is, in fact, a celebration of the “Holiday Season”. He assured us that the purpose of the decoration requirement is to ensure that undecorated cars and trucks are not entered in the parade distracting viewers from the holiday spectacle. Decorations can be any highlights that make the entry festive.

In short, the Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission wants everyone to attend and celebrate whether they are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or other.

We are grateful to Mr. Lakernick and the DDC for the clarification. Although it is a little late to plan for a HiH Menorahmobile for 2006, we will certainly have one ready by 2007!
