The Vance County Board of Commissioners met yesterday in a brief session.
The first order of business was to appoint Sheriff-Elect Peter White to the position of Vance County Sheriff after the retirement of the current Sheriff, R. Thomas Breedlove, commences at 5:00 p.m. on November 30. White will serve as the interim Sheriff until he is sworn into office on December 4.

The Commission then went on to adopt two resolutions of appreciation. The first commended outgoing Commissioner Wilbur Boyd. The resolution noted that Boyd has served since 1988 in five consecutive terms and has worked closely with the Vance County Board of Education.

The second resolution of appreciation was directed to Commissioner Tommy Hester who was elected in 2002. It noted that he was the first Republican to serve on the Commission and that he was responsible for forming a strong relationship between the County and Republican Senators Burr and Dole.
Both Commissioners received commemorative plaques from Vance County Board of Commissioners Chairman Tim Pegram and were applauded by the audience which included incoming Commissioners-Elect Dan Brummitt and Scott Hughes.
Boyd, clearly emotional, simply thanked those present. Hester remarked that he was “proud to have served with y’all.”
The Board then went into closed session regarding an undisclosed legal matter.
