Thursday’s open line

For those who are not aware, the comments that occasionally pop up touting various pharmaceuticals, travel, mobile phones, pornography, and so forth, are called “spam”. It is believed that the term was coined by computer geeks from the Monty Python “Spam Sketch”.

When various users presented us with the problem of having their legitimate posts disappear, I put Tech Support onto the problem. The issue was, as it turns out, the spam handler deleting their posts. The resolution of the issue has, unfortunately, had the side effect of allowing more of the spam to come through than has been the case in the recent past.

Please be aware that we are working on the problem. However, it will probably continue to occur until the spam handler “re-learns” how to handle the spam. In the mean time, we urge you not to clink on any links provided by the spam, as you may see something unpleasant, and we assure you that the problem is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Now, have at!
