Injured man found on roadside New Year’s night

On Monday night, January 1, at 10:22 p.m., Officer C. M. Dickerson responded with emergency medical personnel to 815 Eastway Drive to investigate a report that an injured man had been found outside.

Officer Dickerson arrived to find a man in front of the residence, bleeding from the face, nose and mouth. The source of the injury to the man was not immediately apparent to emergency workers and, though he was conscious, he did not provide the officer or the emergency medical personnel with any details about what had happened to him. An ambulance took the man to the Emergency Department at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Officer Dickerson later learned that the man’s injuries were serious and life threatening, and that he was to be transferred to Duke University Medical Center. Dickerson tentatively identified the man as Albert Hart, age 44, of Henderson, and the Police Department has contacted Hart’s family.

Although the circumstances surrounding Hart’s injury have not been clearly established, Detective A. D. Simmons is investigating the incident as a felonious assault.

There are no further details for public release from the Police Department at this time. The Police Department is, however, seeking information from citizens who may have direct knowledge about the circumstances that led to Hart’s injuries. Persons possessing this knowledge are encouraged to call the Henderson Police Department, Investigations Division, at 252-431-6062.
