2005-06 Quiz Bowl Winners

The 2006-07 Public Library Quiz Bowl will take place for the first time in Perry Library Meeting Room Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m.

The new meeting room has the space and technology to house the full competition, not just the practice competition. Teams from Northern and Southern Vance High Schools, and Kerr-Vance Academy, will compete for the honor of representing Vance County at the District Competition. The winning team will also be the library’s guests at a pizza party, will take home a “Winner” trophy, and receive an engraved traveling plaque to display at their school.

The North Carolina Public Library Quiz Bowl began in 1978, though it looks as though 2005-06 was the final year for the state level of the competition. Though it has been an annual statewide academic competition for North Carolina high school students, the State Library of NC has announced that it will no longer sponsor the competition on a statewide level. This will, therefore, be the first year that winning teams, after representing their counties at the District Competition in March 17, 2007, will not continue to the state level.

Public Library Quiz Bowl is made possible through the efforts of many people in the community. Volunteers serve as judges, moderators, scorekeepers, and timekeeper, and local businesses, civic clubs, and schools contribute very generously in a variety of ways. Special thanks to Coca Cola Bottling Company; Friends of the Library; Henderson Daily Dispatch; Home in Henderson; Papa John’s Pizza; Stems and Petals: Tony Griffin, Designer; Subway; The Screen Master; Vance County Schools; WISZ; and other supporters of this important program. This program is free and open to the public. Come to cheer on your favorite team.
