City Council agenda for tonight


Items on the agenda for the Henderson City Council tonight at 7:00 p.m. in chambers at City Hall include the following:

* The Council will recognize D. Gray Faulkner, a long time member of the Henderson Planning Board.

* The Council will vote on several budget amendments. Two involve the Nutbush Interceptor/Redbud Pump Station, two are for the Commerce Drive Extension, and one is for items for the Henderson Fire Department.

* James Sneed will present to the Council regarding “community concerns”.

* A representative of the Vance County Historical Society, Inc., will make a presentation to the Council.

* The FAIR Committee will report on various items including a Recreation Department study on safety and drug seizure money uses.

* Henderson City Council member Garry Daeke will report on behalf of the Community Development Committee on items including the Certificate of Occupancy Ordinance and the David Street CDBG Project.

* The Public Works Committee will report on Geraldine Champion’s Hillside Avenue street light request, a hole on Oak Hill Street, pruning of trees, action items reporting procedures, and any progress that has been made on the Chavasse Avenue widening project.

* Chair Bernard Alston’s Public Utilities Committee will inform the Council on the status of water sales negotiation with Oxford and Vance County. It will also discuss the prospect of hiring a Public Utilities Engineer. It will also provide sewer overflow reports.

* The Human Resources Committee, also chaired by Alston, will report on the status of the employee handbook as well as performance appraisals.

* The Journal Committee chaired by Henderson City Council member Elissa Yount will discuss an in-house training by the NC Department of Cultural Resources for City staff/employees on the legality of public records on May 4.

* The Land Planning and Development Committee chaired by Ranger Wilkerson will provide an update from the County of Vance on the Armory and former library, if such information exists. It will also update on the status of the grants for the former police station on Young Street.

* City Manager Jerry Moss will discuss graffiti.

* One appointment remains to the Henderson Planning Board.
