Dear Home in Henderson readers,
In one of my last acts as Vance County and Perry Library’s children’s librarian, it is my very great pleasure to introduce a new children’s librarian to you.
Leigh Lambert will begin work as the youth services librarian at H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library in early June. For my part, this letter is simply a thank you for the time and support you have given me and the library in my seven years as children’s librarian.
I have enjoyed much of my work at the library, and my time living in Henderson. I will truly miss the teachers, the parents, and most of all the children whom I have come to love in my tenure here.
For the curious: for some time, my husband and I have had our eye on Wake County as a fun place to live, and this year he is in the process of finding a job in Wake or a neighboring county. We will be moving to Wake County when the school year is finished.
I myself will be spending late spring and early summer trying to do what might pass, in a pinch, for organization, which really means digging through seven years’ worth of old ads, books bought at sales and in airports, and other such ‘valuables.’ I will also, however, manage the occasional book review for Home in Henderson, so keep your eyes peeled.
My husband and I will still be in Henderson until June or July, and I will be in and out of the library, so drop by and say “hi” (or “bye?”) if the mood takes you. Just tell me your alias if you are someone I only know from HIH (if you desire…) : )
Thanks again for your valuable support and remarks during a difficult transition from old library to new, one that is still in some ways going on. Please pass on to “Library Lady Leigh” that same support; I believe she is a great addition to youth services in this county. Below is an introductory bio from Leigh Lambert herself.

Leigh Lambert, the new Head of Youth Services at the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library
Leigh Lambert, also known as “Library Lady Leigh”, has crossed the state line again, coming to the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library, from Virginia, where she has been employed as a children’s librarian at the County of Henrico’s Dumbarton Area Library.
No stranger to North Carolina, Leigh earned her Master of Science in Library Science degree from UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science in 2004.
She started her library career in 1999 and has also worked in youth/children’s services for the Richmond Public Library and the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (Charlottesville) systems in addition to being a member of Virginia’s Youth Services Advisory Committee.
She has performed as a storyteller at the Morehead Planetarium, Raleigh’s Cameron Village Regional Library, the Meherrin Regional Library (Lawrenceville and Emporia, VA) and in a variety of public schools. She also performs as a freelance storyteller for children’s birthday parties and is a White Belt instructor of Nia, a mind-body-spirit fitness fusion program, which is known for its sense of childlike wonder and joy.

‘Once upon a time’ she was a theater student in New York City, performing in musicals Off-Broadway at the Theresa Lang Theatre, at the Fort Lee Playhouse, and in Ohio’s first outdoor drama production, Paul Green’s “Trumpet in the Land.” Combining an enjoyment of song, dance, books, and young people, Leigh is excited to celebrate these close to her hometown of South Hill, VA.
Her parents once lived in Henderson, and some of Leigh’s relatives have lived in Northern North Carolina for decades. Leigh has been awaiting the right opportunity to return to her roots and the natural beauty of the area. Glad to have found this chance with the Perry Library, Leigh is eager to reconnect with our region’s people and places. She looks forward to jumping into summer reading and continuing the dynamic programming and welcoming hospitality that Perry Library’s Youth Services is known for.
