SBE visits Washington on NCLB reauthorization

With the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) federal law up for renewal in Congress this year, members of the State Board of Education developed a platform to present to U.S. House and Senate leaders regarding recommended changes for the reauthorization of the NCLB.

Suggested changes include lessening federal involvement in decision making, changing the “all or nothing” approach that the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) measurement has on schools and allowing more time for improvement plans to work before schools are further sanctioned.
