City seeks grant to develop downtown

Planning & Community Development Director Erris Dunston told the Henderson City Council during Monday’s regular meeting that her department was applying for a $1 million grant to renovate 33 apartments on Garnett Street.

The program to which she is making the application is the Mainstreet Hope VI Grant Project.

When Council member Garry Daeke asked what matching funds were required, Dunston informed him that the grant did not require a match.

Council member Lynn Harper asked how she had learned of the grant. City Manager Jerry Moss responded that it was learned of through the eCivis grant research program recently purchased by the City.

“ECivis? ECivis, you say?” Harper responded facetiously, prompted no doubt by recent criticisms received by the Council that the program is underutilized or ineffective.
