HPD uses tear gas to nab alleged copper thieves

On June 24, 2008, officers of the Henderson Police Department received a call in reference to a suspicious vehicle at 118 Wester Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers checked the residence and located the lock on the door to the house’s crawl space. The lock was broken.

When officers opened the door, they observed three individuals under the residence. Several pieces of copper pipe and bolt cutters were lying near the opening of the residence.

Officers ordered the suspects from the residence. One crawled from under the house and was taken into custody. The other two refused to exit. Officers deployed two cans of tear gas under the residence before the suspects would exit the residence.

All three of the individuals listed below were arrested and charged with breaking, entering, and larceny as well as possession of stolen goods. They were confined to the Vance County Jail under $50,000 secured bond.
