City awards $425k bid to H.G. Reynolds

The Henderson City Council voted unanimously at Monday evening’s workshop session to award a $423,438 bid to local contractor H.G. Reynolds for sewer rehabilitation.

The bid will cover sewer replacement of sewer mains on portions of Booth, Winder, Harriet, Nicholas, and Maple Streets.

All of the replacement locations are in the Sandy Creek Basin.

Interim City Manager Ed Wyatt called the award “indicitive of a proactive effort” relative to the Special Order of Consent the city is under regarding the condition of its waste water reclamation facility.

Part of the bid award will include video inspection to perform further inspection of the basin.

According to Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier, the work will be funded with a grant from the Clean Water Management Trust Fund that was received in November of 2007. According to Frazier, the city has also applied for another grant from the Trust in the amount of $500,000.

That grant, if awarded to the city, could help to pay for a UV disinfection system for the waste treatment plant.

Frazier characterized the pending grant application as “being as aggressive as we can to come up with the funds to do that”.

The next deadline under the SOC is August 31, 2008.
