HPD makes arrest for string of armed robberies


On December 18, 2008, officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 400 block of Chavasse Avenue.

The victim advised police he was walking on Chavasse Avenue and was robbed at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of money.

A description of the suspects and vehicle was provided to the police; however, officers were unable to locate the vehicle in the area.

Approximately 45 minutes, later police responded to a report of another armed robbery in the 500 block of Harriett Street.

Upon arrival, two victims told the responding officers that they were robbed at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of money while walking on Harriett Street. A description of the vehicle and suspects was provided.

Officers searched the area and located a vehicle matching the description. Upon stopping the vehicle, the occupants were detained.

After an investigation by members of the Patrol Division, along with assistance from the Criminal Investigations Division, the suspects listed below were arrested and charged:

Donald Coles, 19, of 6035 Hebron Road in Oxford, NC

Debbie Alston, 18 6035 Hebron Road in Oxford, NC

Nolan Lloyd Coles III, 20 of 6035 Hebron Road in Oxford, NC

Mario Perry, 19 of 5630 Cornwall Road in Oxford, NC

Jazma Chavis, 17, of 1020 Roxboro Road in Oxford, NC

All five suspects were charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. Each suspect is being held under a $50,000 bond pending a January 5, 2009 court appearance.

Two shotguns, one rifle, and one handgun were recovered from the vehicle that the suspects were operating.
