The Pete Smith conundrum

Yesterday I got a call from Pete Smith.

No, not that one. The other one. No, not him either. Pete Smith as in Pete Smith Electric.

Mr. Smith told me that he was being confronted about political views expressed on Home in Henderson. That, however, was only a lead-in to his chief concern.

The problem is, he said, that he hasn’t been expressing any opinions on HiH.

He asked me to make that emphatically clear. So let me be clear, with emphasis:

Pete Smith as in Smith Electric has not been expressing any views on Home in Henderson.

Mr. Smith (the one who called me) explained to me very carefully that he does not own a computer.

As fate would have it, North Central North Carolina is rife with Pete Smiths. According to Mr. Smith (as in Smith Electric), there are three in the general vicinity, including him.

I assume that this would never happen to Farquar W. Ulmelmahey.

I honestly have no idea if the person posting as Pete Smith is, in fact, a Pete Smith. If he or she isn’t a Pete Smith, I don’t know whether he or she chose the name at random or is attempting to impersonate a real Pete Smith. An email to Pete Smith (the one who’s been posting on the blog as Pete Smith) has gone unanswered as of press time.

Follow me?

Basically, it comes down to this: If your name is Pete Smith, you’ll need to use another name to comment on HiH, since I have no way of knowing which Pete Smith you are.

I’m going to lie down now.
