HPD crime alert: mail scams

This from Lt. Irvin Robinson of the Henderson Police Department:

The Henderson Police Department has received reports of citizens receiving letters from groups claiming to be national companies indicating that the receiver is “a winner of a cash prize of $9984077.77.”

Subjects were sent a form to be filled out with their information or were asked to forward a processing fee to the company to receive their prize. These letters are fraudulent and the company does not exist.

The Henderson Police Department reminds everyone to never give any information such as Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, dates of birth, or any other identifying information to anyone over the telephone, through letters, or email without being sure of the person/company’s identity. Companies offering unsolicited “prizes”, especially cash, should never ask for any type of payment, processing fee, or shipment from the “winner”.

The Henderson Police Department is asking that you call 252.438.4141 and report any such mailings or solicitations.
