Regional teachers of the year honored
Nine teachers were recently selected to represent their regions and charter schools as regional Teachers of the Year and will now compete for the title of 2009-10 AT&T North Carolina Teacher of the Year.
Vance planning & environmental comm. to meet
The Vance County Board of Commissioners’ Planning & Environmental Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. The location of the meeting was not released. Traditionally, these meetings take place in the conference room of the County Administration Building or in the office of County Manager Jerry Ayscue, also located in that building.

School construction proposal to be in econ. package
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) announced today that his school construction legislation, The America’s Better Classrooms Act of 2007, will be included in the economic recovery package Congress is writing.

Etheridge votes for children’s health insurance

January state board of ed. highlights
At last week’s Board meeting, members approved using first retest results for calculating performance composites for ABCs and AYP for grades 3-8 in the 2008-09 school year, and the first retest results for all 10 EOCs in the 2009-2010 school year.
