Monday’s open line

Last week was a busy one for us.

In addition to the regular news items, there seems to be a campaign coming from at least one of our comment posters to expose the Henderson Police Department, along with the promise of a press conference to be held today at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall (which is, incidentally, the same time and place in which the Henderson City Council meets for its short regular session). That press conference is supposed to include “the Feds”, whatever that means.

As a side note, no other news outlet in Henderson has confirmed receiving notification of such a press conference. As a matter of fact, we haven’t received a formal notification ourselves. Even so, should it happen to occur, we’ll be ready for it.

We do not for a second believe that the Henderson Police Department engages in the acts that the comment poster “Interesting or not” alleges. However, the agreement of the staff of Home in Henderson is not necessary for a comment post to be allowed to stand. So, in the interest of fairness, and as an acknowledgment that we could be wrong, we have allowed most of the posts to stand, even though we find them more than faintly repugnant.

(Some of the posts alleged specific criminal acts against specific individuals without any kind of supporting evidence. Those were deleted as soon as we became aware of them.)

Should the promised press conference not occur, and should evidence supporting the allegations that have been made not emerge shortly, we will have to reassess our position on those comments and on comments like them in the future.
