City braces for another budget shortfall

According to Henderson City Manager Ray Griffin, the state of North Carolina cut its beer and wine tax distributions to municipalities by 66.7%.

Griffin made his statement to Henderson City Council members during Monday’s short regular session of that body.

The cut in state funds represents a $50,000 shortfall in an already tight budget.

The city manager told members that the loss of funds will be offset by surplus vehicle and equipment sales that have been made and been pending. Griffin said that he had been hoping that the sales, which are conducted on an auction site on-line, would provide a “cushion” for the city’s budget.

The council unanimously agreed to Griffin’s solution.
