HTSU intercepts alleged identity thieves


On February 25t, 2010 members of the Henderson Police Department’s Highway Traffic Safety Unit (HTSU) conducted a traffic stop on 1-85 South.

Upon further investigation, numerous items related to credit card theft were found inside the vehicle. These items included computer devices and victims’ personal and financial information from various parts of the United States.

Subsequently, the occupants:

  • Jerome Shaw, 29, of 74 Mott Avenue, Inwood, New York;
  • Elton Chandler, 33, of 7197 Chevy Chase, Memphis, Tennessee;
  • Robert Soto, 33, of 422 Blake Avenue Apt. 5G, Brooklyn, New York;
  • Salimot Akande, 25, of 923 Meadow Vista Road, Charlotte, North Carolina
  • were arrested and charged with four counts of financial identity fraud, one count of financial card theft, and one count of financial card forgery.

    All subjects were given a $70,000 secured bond pending an initial court appearance on March 16, 2010.
