HPD “walk-throughs” lead to shoplifing arrests


In an effort to address recent reports of shoplifting and larceny at local stores, officers of the Henderson Police Department have been increasing the number of “walk-through” patrols made in retail businesses.

On May 15, 2010, two Henderson Police Department officers conducting a walk-through of Walmart at 200 North Cooper Drive stopped Kayla Jo Chitty of Oxford as she was leaving the store.

Officers found that Chitty had concealed two quarts of GTX motor oil taken from the automotive department of Walmart, valued at $7.54. Chitty was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting/concealment of goods and issued a citation to appear in court on that charge.

On June 27, 2010, two Henderson Police Department officers conducting a walk-through of Walmart at 200 North Cooper Drive were approached by a Wal-Mart associate about a suspected shoplifter inside the store.

Officers observed the shoplifting suspect remove items from her purse as they approached her.

Shoplifting suspect Tonya Bullock, 38, of 724 Roberson Street in Henderson, North Carolina is alleged to have had concealed candles, valued at $20, in her purse.

Bullock was charged wtth misdemeanor shoplifting/concealment of goods and issued a citation to appear In court on that charge.
