Search warrant uncovers heroin, firearm


On December 29, 2010, members of the Henderson Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and SWAT team executed a search warrant at 563 Spring Street in Henderson, North Carolina after receiving numerous drug complaints about the residence.

Upon execution of the search warrant, Saleem Welfare, 21, of the Henderson address above was found inside the residence. Upon searching the residence, 57 bindles of heroin and a .32 caliber Derringer handgun were located.

Welfare was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver a Schedule I controlled substance and felony maintaining of a dwelling for that purpose. Welfare was taken to the magistrate’s office and received a $25,000 secured bond. He remains in the Vance County Jail pending an initial court hearing on February 21, 2011.
