HPD makes arrest after vehicle chase


On January 13, 2011 around 11:45 a.m., officers with the Henderson Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on I-85 southbound near the 217 mile marker.

When the officer activated his emergency equipment, the driver of the vehicle began to flee. The vehicle did not stop and proceeded off of the interstate onto the 215 exit. The driver then drove down a dead end road near Parham Road and attempted to elude officers by driving into the yard of a residence. The driver then proceeded back onto I-85 southbound. Officers continued to pursue the vehicle until the vehicle stopped at the 206 mile marker of I-85 South.

A small amount of marijuana was discharged in the yard of the residence through which the subject had attempted to flee.

The driver, Dewayne Michael Lane, 33, of 2425 Lantern Lane in Atlanta, Georgia was arrested and charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, and failure to wear a seat belt. Lane received a $5,000 secured bond pending a court hearing on March 8, 2011.

Lane is also a probation absconder from the State of Georgia.

The passenger, Alphia Marlene Mckinney, 29, also of 2425 Lantern Lane, Atlanta, Georgia was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance. She received a $1,000 secured bond pending a court hearing on March 8, 2011.
