Officer Joseph Gwinn had a successful month in January 2011.

During this month he made five arrests, three of which were felony arrests, and he served 27 warrants. During January he investigated fourteen incidents. He also wrote 28 citations during this month. He answered 72 calls for service. He was the top producer for his section.

Gwinn arrested and served several warrants on one of Henderson’s most wanted, Jovon Bullock, on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Bullock was charged with one count of armed robbery for an incident that occurred on October 23, 2010 at the Walmart in Henderson. In this incident, it is alleged that Bullock attempted to leave the store with a cart full of unpaid-for items. Bullock was confronted by store loss prevention and he then allegedly threatened the employee with a baseball bat before leaving the premises.
Bullock was also charged with one count of misdemeanor larceny and one count of conspiracy to commit larceny for an incident that occurred on January 14, 2011 at the Roses Department Store located at 1245 Dabney Drive in Henderson. In this incident, it is alleged that Bullock and unnamed others exited the store with a 26” Sanyo television through a fire exit. A $500 secured bond was set in this matter. A preliminary court date of February 7, 2011 was also set.

On Monday, January 24, 2011 Gwinn arrested Edward Currin, Samantha Jernigan and Chelsie House during a vehicle stop immediately after the three occupants of the vehicle allegedly stole seventeen rolls of roofing paper from the construction site at Cedar Hurst apartments. The three were charged with felony larceny from a construction site and possession of stolen goods. Each was jailed under a $22,000 bond.

Gwinn began his career with the Henderson Police Department in December 2008. Since that time he has been assigned to the Patrol Division. He is also assigned to the bike patrol unit. He currently serves on section one. Officer Gwinn graduated Basic Law Enforcement at Vance Granville Community College. Prior to joining the Henderson Police Department, Gwinn was serving the capacity of a sergeant with the North Carolina Department of Corrections Division of Prisons. He was assigned to Warren Correctional Institution. Gwinn served with the North Carolina National Guard for four years.

Gwinn continues to be an asset to the Henderson Police Department. His committed service to the citizens of Henderson is demonstrated through a continued effort to achieve excellence.
