Today will mark a public viewing of the proposed Vance County redistricting maps for voting on commissioners. The event will be at the H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library starting at 4pm to 6 pm.
We’ll have reports to come regarding Monday nights city council meeting.
In the meantime have at it!
Will there be refreshments?
UNCMOM, (post 1) refreshments to me would be a roomful of people asking questions, agreeing, and disagreeing with the results of Mr. Care’s, Mr. McMillen and his staff’s efforts to redistrict the county voters. The crème brûlée of the meeting would be an open discussion to review that 1987 court order that eliminated at-large commissioners.
UNCMOM, (post 1) no refreshments were served and no crème brûlée. Not one commissioner thought it important enough to appear and answer any questions. Only Mr. Care, Mr. McMillen, and Mr. Asycue represented the County. In the first one and half hours of this last scoping meeting only one other person came in.
I have learned that Mr. McMillen located and obtained an upgrade to the county’s GIS-centric mapping software to perform the statistical analysis of the census data. A software upgrade that significantly reduced the extra hours required to calculate voter distribution across all seven districts. A software upgrade that Mr. McMillen’s office acquired at no cost to the County saving the County several thousands of dollars.
A Stephen Colbert A Tip of the Hat, to Mr. Care and Mr. McMillen for satisfying so many conflicting sides on the issue of redistricting.
Maybe the crème brûlée should be the entire Board’s public recognition Mr. Care’s, Mr. McMillen and his staff’s efforts to complete the County’s first voter redistricting since 1987.
