VGCC Board Chair Announces Candidates For Presidency

Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees Chairman Donald C. Seifert, Sr. announced this morning that the Board’s Presidential Search Committee has narrowed the pool of presidential candidates from forty-two down to six.

In July, the Board began a nationwide search for VGCC’s next President, after Dr. Randy Parker announced that he would be leaving on September 1 to become the president of Guilford Technical Community College.  In August, the Board selected Dr. Angela R. Ballentine, the college’s Vice President of Instruction, to serve as interim president for the institution while the Board conducted a formal search for the next president.

The full Board of Trustees will now interview the final six presidential candidates. The candidates are Dr. Natalie J. Harder, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, VA; Dr. Paul Hutchins, Dean, Educational Centers and Economic Development at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL; Dr. Ralph G. Soney, President at Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Ahoskie, NC; Dr. Barbara Tansey, Vice President for Academic and Student Services at Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, NC; Dr. Sharon K. Thompson, Vice President for Academic Services at Brunswick Community College in Supply, NC; and Dr. Stelfanie Williams, Vice President for Economic and Community Development at Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC.

Interviews have been scheduled for Nov. 1-3 and 8-10 with each candidate being interviewed on a separate day. Each interview day will begin with a public forum at 2:30 p.m. in the Civic Center on Main Campus, followed by the candidate’s closed session interview with the Board at 4:30 p.m.

The Board hopes to announce VGCC’s next President by the end of the year.
