VGCC Autumn Arts 2011 Winners Named


Entries in Autumn Arts 2011, the 36th annual juried art show sponsored by Vance-Granville Community College and the Kerr Lake Art Society, have been judged and are on display at VGCC. The public is invited to view the artwork on the second floor of Building 7 on the college’s main campus in Vance County through Nov. 4. Viewing hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays.

Douglas Payne of Raleigh took the top prize of $300 for his oil painting, “Bird Flu.”

Jeniffer Patterson of Littleton won second place (worth $200) with her acrylic painting, “Retired,” while “Accidents,” a graphite drawing, won third place ($100) for artist Isaac Talley of Oxford.

This year’s juror, or judge, was artist, lecturer and teacher Frank Dalimonte of Graham, N.C., who praised the show for its variety of unusual and exciting works of art. Dalimonte awarded honorable mentions to several artists, including Madeleine Illsche of Oxford, Mary Oakley of Creedmoor, William Ward Moseley of Littleton, Jaye Williamson of Oxford, Olivia Williamson of Oxford, Ann P. Wilson of Henderson, Shaye Brower of Raleigh, Lelia Brigham of Henderson, Wanda Satterwhite of Warrenton, Diana R. Cook of Franklinton, Cynthia Graham of Henderson and Kelly Nesbitt of Henderson.

Visitors to the exhibition can also vote for their favorite piece of art through Nov. 4. The “People’s Choice” winning artist will receive $50.
