First Baptist Church Bell Ringers Leads Worshop at Duke University Chapel for 38th Consecutive Year

The middle and high school youth handbell group, The Bell Ringers of the First Baptist Church (Henderson), led worship at Duke University Chapel this past Sunday for a 38th consecutive year. Only four outside musical groups are invited annually to lead worship in the chapel. A webcast of yesterday’s service is available at http://youtu.be/UWAMZJXq9O4. The twenty-seven seventh through twelfth grade ringers have between two and seven years’ ringing experience.

Many Henderson residents may not know that The Bell Ringers is the largest youth handbell choir in the United States. The handbell program at First Baptist, involving 145 ringers in seven handbell choirs, is one of the largest in the country. Also, First Baptist’s Handbell collection of three sets of handbells and two sets of choirchimes is also among the largest of any church in America.
