While at lunch Thursday at Pino’s I saw on the TV a scene from a helicopter showing a possible shooting in Henderson. However, we still have yet to receive a press release from the sherriff’s office. But this is the information from WRAL’s posted article.
When deputies arrived at 586 S. Lynnbank Road, they found a man lying in the yard. Michael Anthony Henderson Jr., 19, had been shot in the chest with a shotgun, deputies said. He was taken to Maria Parham Medical Center where he died.
Deputies said Henderson, of 150 Freedom Lane, had an accomplice. They are looking for Andrew Terry, of 113 N. Woods Drive. Terry is also wanted for a break-in Nov. 14 at a different Vance County home. Anyone with information about where Terry might be is asked to call the Vance County Sheriff’s Office at 252-738-2200. According to memo’s Verizon Wireless plans to charge subscribers a new $2 fee every time they pay their wireless bills online or directly over the phone. The new fee will go into effect starting January 15 and doesn’t apply to customers paying their bills with an electronic check or who enroll in autopay using a credit, debit, or AT&T cards. Customers using Verizon Wireless gift cards or Verizon Wireless device rebate cards and customers using standard paper check and money orders made payable directly to Verizon Wireless will also not be charged a fee. On Thursday, the former Massachusetts governor and GOP presidential hopeful announced the endorsement of Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), bringing Romney’s Senate endorsements up to 11, according to a tally kept by Roll Call. North Carolina’s primary is still more than four months away: It comes on May 8, by which time all but 13 states will have held their nominating contests. (read more)

We’d like to thank all of our readers for a great 2011. We’d love to hear your feedback on how we’re doing so far, and what we need to be doing more and less of in the future. Feel free to put them in our open lines here or email us. In fact, in cooperation with some avid readers, we are preparing a survey to launch early January to help us gauge the site and community as well. We hope you’ll take the time to fill it out, and to entice you we’re going to offer some give aways as well. More details as soon as I can get through my end of year and new year paperwork.
Welcome to the Friday and Weekend Open Line! The last one of 2011!
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for a report from the sheriff. Anyway, KUDO”S to the ones who stopped this home invasion….a job well done!
Dispatch this morning gives more info. The article included the arrest history of the deceased–wonder if the Sheriff supplied that info or did the Dispatch investigate?
I could have guessed this wasn’t the deceased’s first rodeo. Judges take note: We are tired of our homes being invaded by repeat offenders.
I totally agree with One voice–but so sorry the protector of his safe haven had the frightening experience–God Bless that family.
Bless the victims — the homeowners — and prayers for their strength through this time. You did what you had to do and Kudos to you! Don’t let the bleeding hearts that would sacrifice their families, their neighbors, and their friends rather than to punish criminals– get to your psyche. The world needs more people like you. You are a hero!
My question for the Sheriff’s Dept. would be this:Why in other counties when you are involved in actively committing a felony(which a home invasion meets this criteria) and someone dies as a result of your actions why isn’t the other THIEF that was with the man who got shot being charged with MURDER? He definitely can be charged according to NC STATE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this will make other thieves think twice before they run up in another house trying to steal something.
Crime and Controversy are the stories that seem to drive the comment levels on HiH these days. That is not a bad thing at all. Those kinds of events sometimes spark the most emotion from people. However, if we could see some support for the local sports teams, clubs and the work they do along with other news worthy tid-bits along those lines it would broden the HiH horizon. We need to get those groups to participate in this venture and once they do the change will come. This blog can be what we make so long as folks get a handle and comment. You do not even have to use your own email address! It’s that easy. The exchange of ideas and feelings can be a very good thing if we let it happen. Dignity and respect go a long way. With that being said, i hope everyone has a bright and Happy New Year!
All you liberals here in Henderson that posted comments on WRAL Golo Section in reference to the 14 yr old killing the intruder of his home, you stated that the intruder should have been given a 2nd chance, well our Daily Dispatch printed this morning that Terry had been “charged with MORE than a dozen previous break-ins and theft felonies”. If Henderson, the murdered, court records were checked,he too probably has numerous counts against him. Now what about the 2nd chance scenario? People of this caliber are NOT entitled to a 2nd chance. They should be exterminated and too bad, Terry was not killed also. The paper is now saying that there are TWO more suspects……..They are coming out of the woodwork just like rats. Yes, the 14 yr. old is a hero for helping rid society of at least one. The only problem in this situation is that he did not have more ammunition and was able to unload it on the other three involved in this crime. Law abiding citizens of Henderson and Vance County, we are living in a different age and time….ARM yourself and smell the gunpowder in your household so you will be prepared to defend yourself!
Signed, Drucilla Matea
Drucilla, there is no use trying to change the minds of liberals (they lack common sense). I wish we could — I certainly try. They are all heart (and misguided at that) and no brains. They don’t live in reality but in some sort of ivory tower. Sometimes I wish we could wall them in with the criminals and see how they fare. In any case, good post — you are right. I think the kid should be given crime stoppers money for reducing our crime rate!
The thing to do would be to watch what happens in court to these repeat offenders.
Happy New Year.
Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully 2012 will be the year when society comes to its collective senses again — when Heros are Heros, when we value integrity, honesty, and hard work once again, and where criminals are forced to either straighten up or are ostracized.
