N.C. Museum of Art gets still-life exclusive

A touring exhibition of more than 70 still-life paintings representing multiple masters will make its only U.S. stop at the North Carolina Museum of Art this fall. “Visual Feast: Masterpieces of Still Life from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston,” which opens Oct. 21 and runs through Jan. 13, 2013, will include works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe. The exhibition features European and American paintings and decorative arts from the Renaissance to the present. Visually alluring, the still life has served as a means for artists through the centuries to test their artistic mettle and express often-profound ideas on time, life and nature.
