VGCC offers Administrative Assistant training at night

Vance-Granville Community College is currently registering students for an upcoming “Administrative Assistant Essentials” course, starting July 30 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County. The popular course that trains people for jobs in today’s computer-driven offices will meet Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m., through Dec. 6. Classes will meet in room 7136 of Building 7.

Students will receive a total of 144 hours of instruction in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher, including practice projects that utilize key features of the those programs. The course will teach the student to integrate the various applications with one another to fully utilize their interface capabilities. Students who complete the course will become familiar with the numerous changes that Microsoft made in their most recent updates to these programs, which are widely used in businesses. Angela Sabal is the instructor for the course.

“This course is excellent for unemployed workers who need additional computer skills or who need to learn Microsoft Office programs in order to re-enter the job market,” said VGCC Computer Center coordinator Laura Peace. “At the same time, by scheduling this class at night, we are making this type of training more convenient for those who do work during the day and who need to update their skills to become more proficient employees.”

The cost of the course includes a registration fee of $175, plus $6 in other college fees. For one course per semester, registration fees are waived for N.C. resident seniors, ages 65 and above. For more information and to register, call VGCC at (252) 738-3417 or 738-3324.
