Job Description

This is responsible professional economic development work administering downtown revitalization and development programs for the City. Work involves initiating and coordinating city area enhancements and promotional activities, developing and maintaining effective public relations between the City and business community, writing grants, serving as liaison to resolve regulatory issues, and working with various committees and commission. This position manages the Main Street Program which must follow state and federal guidelines to maintain state and national recognition. These guidelines include a four point approach of organization, design, promotion and economic restructuring. Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Planning and Community Development. This position provides staff support to the Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission (HVDDC). The HVDDC is an incorporated non-profit organization made up of a Board that serves as a liaison to the City and County. Work is reviewed through meetings, reports, and analysis of results obtained. The ideal candidate must be able to resolve conflicts between business owners and the City, oversee revitalization projects, research and recommend projects, in compliance with regulations. Develops and maintains positive public relations between City and business community, the media, the County, and other entities; serves as liaison to resolve city regulatory or ordinance issues; prepare written reports, makes presentations to various committees and commissions. Researches and applies for relevant revitalization and economic development grants; develops marketing tools; visits other communities to review projects and business prospects. Manages daily activities of the Downtown Development Commission; attends meetings with Downtown Development Commission, civic organizations, Chamber of Commerce, and other groups to give and receive development information; makes presentations and presents reports.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from an accredited college with a bachelor’s degree in planning, business or related field, and 3-5 years of experience in community or economic development including some management experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
