Home in Henderson will have a weekly thread for political issues, including this thread, counting down the 8 weeks until November 6th, 2012, election day. Discuss as you please, keep it civil and respectful. Next Tuesday will be 6 Week Countdown and so forth. (I hope I got the week count right.)
You are free to comment on political issues anywhere else on the site as well, but it might be easier to carry about long discussions in specified threads instead of many different threads over the website.
The administration keeps changing description of the events in Libya. The media at large continue bias for Obama–. The polls can’t be as close as reported–considering the Obamas jet off to NC and other critical states almost weekly.
Obama comes to NC almost every week to see Rick Brand and give him his talking points, Prudence. I can hardly wait to hear how Obama has saved the Islamic countries from destruction and given the US cheap energy. Remember his main campaign points in 2008. Bring unemployment down under 6%, take action to cut gasoline prices, soldify the United States position all over the world with particular emphasis on the Middle East, help homeowners who have lost their homes, make college tuition affordable for everyone and last but not least, reduce health care costs. How has he done, Rick? On a scale of one to ten? I give him a zero. Now save your breath, Rick, we don’t need another of your sermons about the mean Republicans not giving him a chance. We know better.
In his 2008 campaign, Obama promised many things. I picked a few to review four years later.
(1). Provide a $1,000 energy rebate to ALL American families due to high heating costs.
(2). Ensure that 10% of U.S. electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012.
(3). Secure all loose nuclear material in the world by 2012.
(4). Create one million jobs with a $25 billion investment in “shovel ready” projects by 2012.
(5). Enact cap and trade legislation by 2010.
Now for his report card:
(1). Someone else must have gotten my $1,000. Did anyone on HIH get theirs?
(2). I guess he is still working on this since we are closer to 1% than 10%.
(3). Huh? Who believed this in 2008? Not even Superman could have done this.
(4). The shovels weren’t ready because even Obama’s Labor Department says this didn’t happen.
(5). Even Obama’s own party abandoned him on this idea and it is hard to find anyone in favor now.
Maybe these failed promises plus my comments above regarding lowering unemployment, cutting gasoline prices, solidifying our position in the Middle East, helping people who have lost their homes, making college affordable and reducing health care costs will give Mr. Brand material for his next article. I’m not attacking you, Mr. Brand. I count eleven campaign promises with none fulfilled. If this guy worked for you, would you keep him 4 more years? I think not.
Well said Rooter! I would add only one comment…… I trust KY Jelly is still affordable because if this Obamanation is re-elected we are going to ALL need a massive swabbing!
Polls look good for Obama. Maybe America won’t fall for Flopney’s manure.
In my opinion, we are watching two candidates running for president–rather than an incumbent and an opponent. It would appear that the executive office is on leave until after the election. Who’s minding the store?
Well, PUBLIUS. Your name is derived from the Latin Populonia from which the city in Italy is named Bologna! In the USA the City name has now morphed into the more useable description of what your post above represents… HORSE HOCKEY! You apparently are one of the MANY in this area that feed TOTALLY at the PUBLIC trough, otherwise you would be as concerned as the majority of SENSIBLE people and can really see through the fog of Democratic H H ( see above). Are you an undercover operative for that Rancid poster Richard? Each of you would not or totally refuse to recognize the sorry state of these United States and, you two have in the most feeble manner attempted to discount and despise all things Republican out-of-hand without even the least bit of care or forethought for your fellow beings or the forthright meaning of that Party’s plans. Now that is a fine state of affairs for a Preacher and his back-up Deacon! Yea! I know, personal attack, reminds me of Goober in Mayberry ” Citizens Arrest, Citizens Arrest!!” At minimum Goober knew what he was doing, me thinks you two are sadly, FOOLISH! Capitals used for emphasis only, so Mingos’ panties will not cause any chaffing!
A beautiful day. Somewhere birds are singing, fawns are playing. A wonderful day to bash Twitt Flopney. Shall we talk about his lying? No, today we will find out what his opinions are this week. A direct quote:
“I have experience in health care reform. Now and then the president says I’m the grandfather of Obamacare. I don’t think he meant that as a compliment but I’ll take it. This was during my primary, we thought it might not be helpful. But, um, I’ve actually been able to put in place a system that fit the needs of the people of my state, and I’m proud of the fact that in my state, after our plan was put in place, every child has insurance, 98 percent of adults have insurance, but we didn’t have to cut Medicare by $716 billion to do that. We didn’t raise taxes on health companies by $500 billion as the president did. And so, we crafted a program that worked for our state, and I believe the right course for each state we’re going to give you the Medicaid dollars you’ve had in the past, plus grow them with inflation, plus one percent, and you as the states are now going to be given targets to move people towards insurance, and you craft programs that are right for your state. Some will copy what we did. Others will find better solutions. But the nature of the American experiment has been letting states build plans and ideas that work for each of them, share those ideas with one another. The idea of a federal government stepping in, and telling people, here’s the kind of insurance you have to have. You don’t get the choice of whether you want comprehensive or whether you want catastrophic. The government is going to tell you what you have to have. The government is ultimately have a board that tells you what kind of care you can receive. That in my opinion is not the right way to go on health care. The approach that I would propose is one that would give individuals choice as opposed to government choice. That’s going to get our people insured and will keep the cost of health care from going through the roof as it has been, and I believe it will allow people to continue to have the relationship with their doctor and their provider that they want.”
No new lies or flip flops from Twitt today. Apparently he’s doing some private fundraising. Hope somebody brought a camera!
Here is how Romney feels about Obamacare, and I don’t have to cut and paste to make my point. On the first day he is elected President, Romney will work toward repealling Obamacare.
Obamacare was passed after comedian Al Frankin stole a contested election to become the 60th needed Democrat vote. Not a single Republican voted for Obamacare. It was a vote down party lines, and this is what Democrats call bipartisanship. Many Democrat Senator votes were bought with tax payer dollars, or votes for bridges, sweet deals for states if their Senators voted yes – paid for with tax payer stimulus dollars!!!. The arm twisting and collusion over this vote was disgusting. Millions of citizens attended local town hall meetings and marched peacefully on DC in protest of this vote, voicing their indignation for this huge govt plan to take over yet another private industry, which we have all found out, as Pelosi told us, would have to be passed before anyone knew what was in it. Crazy talk!
I totally disreguard polls and viewpoints from the liberal and RINO media outlets, their words mean nothing to me. Until the day Reagan whooped Jimmy Carter, all polls said Carter would cream him. The country is an absolute mess. Bernanke of the federal reserve just started printing more $$$ with no limit as a solution for our economic problems. Nobody in the press admits that it is the Democrat policies that have led us to be far futher in debt, fewer people employed, a higher poverty rate, double gas prices, scandals in the Dept of Justice led by Holder including Fast and Furious, no prosecution for voter intimidation by the black panthers and wanting to hold the trial in NYC for Guantanimo detainees; there is absolute foreign policy negligance led by Hillary Clinton in which our Ambasador is brutally murdered because there are no marines in place to protect our sovereign embassys and consolates abroad – ON 9/11!! – how stupid and deranged – and they blame it on a movie trailer and the press all agrees, not Hillary giggling over killing Gadaffi or Obama boasting about killing Osama or our help installing the Muslim Brotherhood in Lybia and Egypt. Our President goes on the Letterman show rather than meet with Netanyahu as Israel faces a nuclear attack from Iran. Our President doesn’t attend important foreign policy briefings or meet with his jobs committee, Congress won’t pass his outragious budgets………no stopping with the abject incompetance of this administration.
Romney is a businessman and he isn’t the perfect conservative many of us would like, but he is smart and competant and he truly cares about the country. Look at the corporations he has run and the jobs he has created, what has Pres Obama every done or created? The media coverage to portray him as a bad man are deserate attempts at slander as they are terrified to hear him stand and speak the truth , a la Reagan, about the high number of Americans on “govt assistance”, who have fallen into the Democrat trap of vote buying once again. My convictions are firm about this election and the choices are clear and I don’t need to cut and paste to plead the case of truth against deviance.
Don’t need to cut and paste: The first thing that Romney will do when he becomes President is work to repeal Obamacare.
Enough said. This alone will remove so much doubt, speculation and regulation from the business community that economic activity will begin to improve. Businesses, which generate all the tax revenue, will have the confidence to expand and hire employees when Obama is not President any more. This is the most unfriendly business climate Americans have ever had to endure. Imagine, a man that has worked hard, built businesses, succeeded and hired millions of people in his life is condemned by the Democrats and media. While a man that has never met a payroll, BUILT ANYTHING and further destroyed the economy is celebrated. They are up for a rude awakening when they realize the smart American people aren’t buying all the manure printed and aired in the press now. And remember, up until the end, Jimma Carter was ahead in the poles before Reagan beat him in a landslide.
A friend of long standing, who is a Democrat by the way, reminded me today that I had overlooked two more of President Obama’s promises to the nation in 2008. He said as follows:
(1). If elected, I have a plan to secure our borders in order to assure an orderly flow of legal immigrants to our nation.
(2). One of my main goals as your President will be to strengthen the respect and standing of the United States throughout the world. Our friends, particularly in the Middle East, need to see that we stand tall in defense of liberty and justice for all.
Reverend Brand, as Chairman of the Vance County Democraic Party, please give us your evaluation as to how President Obama has performed in regard to these two promises as well as the other eleven previously mentioned above, These were thirteen important promises that candidate Obama made to the nation in 2008. You say we need to give him four more years. I say make that FOUR MORE MONTHS.
You are so right Royalrooter. Romney’s biggest hurdle, to my mind, is the tv channels, with the exception of Fox, for leads with “Obama gaining in Va.–etc. etc.
One of the worst is CBS–along with public broadcasting. Does the electorate really have their heads in the sand? .
Sounds like some of your friends Royal rooter have seen the light–keep talking!
Can I post now?
Late Friday afternoon, the Flopney campaign conducted what is crudely called a data dump of his 2011 tax return plus summarized unaudited information from previous years. (He had previously released his 2010 tax return.) This is a transparent attempt to get ahead of the news cycle. Flopney, who has resisted divulging his tax returns since the beginning of the current election cycle, mysteriously decided that after a bad news week to divulge information that he could have given months ago. (Hint, Twitt: after serving a life sentence, don’t suddenly confess). Although it is clear that he had insisted on more information from others (specifically victims of Bain Capital, the predatory American job killer and Chinese job creator he used to co-own and administer), he has refused to give any of his tax returns for any year prior to 2010.
In the year 2009, Swiss banks under U.S. pressure agreed to disclose the identities if some 4,000 U.S, account holders. The IRS allowed those in noncompliance with the tax code (who had invested in Swiss accounts that violated USA tax laws) were given ONE opportunity to take amnesty and avoid criminal prosecution. Prior to that Flopney and fellow tax cheats had nothing to fear about a non-disclosed account such that the Flopneys owned. It is my belief that Flopney opted into this amnesty. Any tax professional who did not offer a client this opportunity should probably be fired for incompetence.
Obviously, Twitt decided that the disclosure of this amnesty of would result in public revulsion, and, as the bloodless analytical robot that he is, he decided that it was better to not to release any prior 2010 tax returns.
Another issue is the tax treatment of so-called carried interest income that Flopney revives from Bain Capital years after he left their employment. The revenue stream from this source is taxed at capital-gain tax rates, even though Flopney had no original basis in the company. In my opinion, this revenue should be taxed as regular income (like regular wages subject to employee taxes). Congress in a decision going back to the days of Ron Reagan decided otherwise. A big loophole.
who is stopping you from posting
Publius, and Dagny, your posts was in moderation for some reason, it’s all approved now.
Thanks. Thought I might have been a little rough on the old boy.
You pay your taxes based on the tax laws.Maybe they should rewritten and simplyfied so we do not need help in preparing them. How much do you think Romney paid to someone to do his taxes?
Okay Publius, so what is your beef about Romney paying over 6 million dollars in taxes? He is a rich and successful businessman – should he be in jail? will he join the devil when he dies?
Once again I ask, when did this countrys mentality get so twisted that a succesfful man must be condemned? He gave away his original fortune and made his own money, and he gives an average of 15% more away to charity every year, as opposed to Pres Obama’s average 1% to charity every year. And Publius speaks about him like he is **** of the earth.
Look at the companies that Romney has been involved with, like Staples. Besides creating new businesses like Staples, he took over dieing companies that soon would be out of business and all the employees out of jobs. He turned those companies around, sometimes with painful actions like employees being let go, that would have not had a job anyway when the co folded, rebuilt and reorganized them, and they continued on to be viable corporations that created more jobs. How about the blunder that President Obama had to admit about the only jobs he created, with tax payer dollars – not his own $$$$, that those jobs “ha, ha, ha, weren’t that shovel ready, ha, ha, ha.”
You Democrats are so brain washed with your envy and bitterness of success of people that generate the money that pays for everything, nothing could ever make you happy, until we all are desperate in the street with communist misery. You do understand that you, the current Democrat party, and Mr. Brand are advocates of communism, don’t you?
And Pubius, answer 2 questions, if you dare: How much of Romney’s money would satisfy you, what percentage? What problem has President Obama solved in America in the last 4 years?
Publius, Romney can take your roughness. Who is the biggest whiner ever over the last 4 years and can’t tolerate any criticism? This will be fun to watch in the debates.
The modern Republican Party comprises three groups: the greed heads, the scaredy cats, and the religious fanatics. The groups have divergent aims and motivations, and fratricides have happened. Happily for the country, one man has come to” in the darkness bind them.”
He Who Shall Go Nameless had the big business/Wall Street gang, the bombs-away neocons, and the evangelical Protestant/Catholic fundies all screaming for red meat. But wait!
The Nameless One can’t campaign. There is nothing inside the suit. Nothing under the hair. Instead of campaigning, Nameless One prefers raising money. More his type of people, I suppose. Nameless cries, “When you nominated me, I didn’t think that meant I had to consort with all those unwashed people out there!”
The RP has no center and it cannot hold. Following the November elections I look forward to seeing the GOP flying apart into its component pieces. Already the rats are leaving: Tpaw has decided to sell out and become a lobbyist. Peggy Noonan (ex-speechmaker for the Great Communicator) lambasted Nameless in the Wall Street Journal. Bill Kristol in The Weekly Standard also excoriated Nameless. The wrestling promoter’s wife has denounced him. I don’t see John McCain, Newt Gingrich, or Rick Perry shedding many tears for him-they all heartily despise him.
On a more local topic…..how many ways and times does rev/pastor/deacon j.miles have to be told that his ‘services’ aren’t needed in the athletic departments within the Vance County Schools? If you were told once…twice…etc. the same thing? It looks as if there is something more to the ‘volunteer coaching’ b/c if he(or anyone) is so determined to “HELP OUR YOUTH” then why not go to the Recreation Dept. and ‘volunteer’ to COACH? If he really has kids best interest in heart then what difference does it make if it’s at a school or with the rec. dept? Sounds & Smells as if there is more to the issue……..Only N Hunnerson!!!
P.S. My 1st reaction to the issue is why would you hire an atty. who has been to Prison and who has a criminal record for taking taxpayers $$$ for his own interest? Certainly that was not a very good choice of anyone who wanted to be taken seriously to be ‘represented’ by garey ballance. Look up his Criminal History…….NUFF SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Publius…How about some originality from you. You copied your comment #22 word for word from a blog that I saw on the internet yesterday. How silly can you get? You are very similar to Obama. He reads well what someone else writes from a teleprompter. You copy someone else’s material without giving your source. Shame on you, Publius.
My bad. It was Publius comment number 21 not 22. My old eyes aren’t what they used to be back in the days when I voted for Honest Abe.
Royal Rooter, He CAN”T have originality! He does the best he could and now you have OUTED him. Shame on you for being forthright and honest!
Swampy, I made a mistake myself. The comment I was talking about was #21, not 22. By the way, Publius, which category do I fit into? I am certainly not greedy and I am not scared. Does that make me a religious fanatic? I think not. Try a patriotic citizen who is proud to be an American and one who belives in being self sufficient while being compassionate toward those who have tried, but can’t make it in the world without a helping hand. Please note, Publius, I said TRIED…not those who have their hands out from the womb to the tomb.
Royal Rooter, you are entirely correct . I did plagerize another website. I erred. I apoligize. I will not do that again. Thank you for pointing this out. Otherwise I would have an incredible karmic debt until I died. Or as John Cleese in “A Fish Called Wanda” put it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7mIy97_rlo
As to what you are, I don’t know, but I hope you are the forgiving type. Again I am sorry.
Excuse me, apologize.
Now where was I.
An item in Flopney’s famous 47% speech that has not gotten adequate attention: his drooling admiration of the Chinese factory dorm rooms where “girls” were stored when not working. The dorms and factories are surrounded by fences topped with barbed wire. I think this is his idea of a worker’s paradise, i.e. a captive workforce. Twitt was there with some fellow Bain Capital pirates to determine how many American jobs could be shifted there.
This is the Republican vision for America. A few plutocrats surrounded by a servile population of workers. Oh, excuse me-a few creators being mooched from by an ungrateful mob.
Publius and his 3 group version of name calling, that he admired so much he “borrowed”, is standard operating procedure for Democrats. They put everyone in groups, groups of victims. They can not acknowledge the concept of individuals. And what does our Constitution protect? The freedom of the indivudual, not freedom for certain kinds of people.
And did the last sentence come from the Communist Manifesto, the one about plutocrats and a servile population of workers?
Maybe you should find another site to troll around on, the individuals have you tied up in knots here.
OH PUBLIUS… The 47% comment has been Plastered all over every air wave on the planet! How can you even attempt to say it has not been covered enough?! What I want to know is why haven’t the SAME media sources, and I use that term loosely, not sailed into the stupidity of the ALMIGHTY’S comment about the unplanned raids that JUST happened and were not PLANNED even though the country where it happened stated without a doubt they WERE planned ” It’s no Problem”! HE SAID! HORSE MANURE!! There is no way you or anyone can be that idiotic! I suspect that if they were to attack you or someone close to you; you would just welcome them with open arms and olive branches while SCREAMING about the Republicans not doing something about it. You are a really a sad little person. I have and would have an extremely hard time feeling sorry for you due to your selfishness as revealed by your past comments. In fact, the only thing that exceeds your stupidity is your inability to comprehend !
Publius, I am the forgiving type and I forgive you. Come to think of it, Jane Fonda is about the only living soul that I can not find it in my heart to forgive.
to royal rooter:
This is something I’ve heard many people say over time–as I recall–the incident infuriated so many people–obviously it hasn’t been forgotten–nor should it be. Good Ole Ted didn’t seem to be bothered–!
My wife just reminded me that there is one more person that I haven’t forgiven. That would be the dentist who was giving me a root canal and spent so much time talking to his stock broker on the phone that my pain medicine wore off before he finished. He told me that he was sorry and I agreed that he was.
Anyway, Publius, I forgive you, even though I can’t remember what it is that I am forgiving you for,
Ducky Derby is this Saturday. Gonna be fun for the kids.
