On October 17, 2012 the NC Crime Stoppers Association, Inc. held their annual meeting in Shelby, NC and elected officers for the organization’s Board of Directors. During that election Lieutenant I.W. Robinson, Jr. of the Henderson Police Department was elected as one of the three (3) members of the Board of Directors representing the Crime Stopper groups active in this region of North Carolina.
The North Carolina Crime Stoppers Association, Inc. was formed in 1991 as an “umbrella” organization for Crime Stoppers programs in the state of North Carolina.
The Association’s mission is to further the goals of the Crime Stoppers programs. This is accomplished through their annual training seminars which focus on fund-raising, promotion and the operation of individual Crime Stopper’s programs. Both the Henderson Police Department and the Henderson/Vance Crime Stoppers are active members of the state organization.
Lieutenant Robinson is the Henderson Police Department’s Commander of the Crime Prevention Section of the Services Division. He has served as an officer of the Henderson Police Department since 1979. Robinson worked closely with the late Lieutenant Samuel Pearson, one of the pioneers of Crime Prevention and Community Policing in the state of North Carolina in establishing the Crime Stoppers program in Henderson and Vance County. He is also a long-time member and award winner of the North Carolina Crime Prevention Officer’s Association and the state Community Watch organization.
Robinson’s election to this state-wide organization’s board demonstrates both Robinson’s and the Henderson Police Department’s long-time commitment to Crime Prevention programs and the inclusion of citizens’ groups in the efforts to reduce crime.
