Darnell Macon Arrested for Murder, Police Still Seeking 2nd Suspect Lajohn Champion

On November 26, 2012 members of the Henderson Police Department arrested and charged Darnell Macon, 23, of 3299 Epsom Rocky Ford Road Louisburg, NC with first degree murder in relation to the homicide of Gregory Welfare.  Arrest was conducted during a traffic stop in which the suspect fled on foot from the vehicle. Mr. Macon was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. Mr. Macon was also charged with possession of a firearm by felon that was related to the traffic stop. A .40 caliber handgun was recovered.

Other suspect, Lajohn Champion, 22, of Henderson also fled on foot. After a search of the area, Mr. Champion was not located.  Lajohn Champion is wanted for first degree murder. He should be considered armed and dangerous. If located please contact your local law enforcement agency or call 911. On October 20, 2012 around 3:30 PM officer with the Henderson Police Department responded to the area of Thomas Street and Young Ave near the Springwood Apartment Complex in reference to a shooting that had occurred. During the course of the investigation it was determined that two people were shot. Gregory Welfare, 25, of Raleigh was transported to Maria Parham Medical Center where he expired from a shooting injury. Another individual, Lajohn Champion, 22, of Henderson is being treated at an area hospital for a gunshot wound. Investigation is being conducted by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Investigation is ongoing.
