First quarter shows continuing upswing in N.C. film industry

As the first quarter of 2013 comes to an end, the N.C. Film Office continues to see record-breaking numbers for the state’s film industry. More than 20 productions have indicated they intend to film, or have already begun filming, in North Carolina, with a total direct in-state spend in excess of $138 million, while creating more than 13,000 job opportunities, including 2,100 well-paying crew positions for the state’s highly skilled film professionals.

Production is already underway on NBC’s hit series Revolution and CBS’s summer series Under The Dome in the Wilmington region that also has had filming on two independent features as well, The Remaining and Frat Brothers. The Charlotte region has seen production begin on the Fox pilot Sleepy Hollow and the return of Cinemax’s breakout series Banshee as well as the independent features An Evergreen Christmas, Shuffleton’s Barbershop and Careful What You Wish For. Underway in the Western region are the independent features, The World Made Straight – based on the novel by N.C. author Ron Rash – and The Honeymoon, as well a large photo shoot for a nationally known outdoor clothing catalog. Production in the Piedmont Triad region has just been completed on the feature The Ultimate Life and the Research Triangle region has had cameras rolling on the independent feature Live Evil as well as scenes for the previously mentioned Revolution and the project A Dog Named Suki.
