I am pleased to advise you that I have appointed Captain Marcus W. Barrow to the position of interim Police Chief, effective close of business on Friday, 31 May 201.3.

Captain Barrow, a native of Zebulon, NC, has been with the Henderson Police Department (HPD) since

He was promoted to Police Officer II in 2000, Police Officer III in 2003, Sergeant in 2005, Lieutenant in 2007, Captain of Services Division in 2010, and Captain of Operations Division in 2012. Additionally, he has served as a Field Training Officer, worked in Investigative Division, worked with the Special Enforcement Unit and served as the Accreditation Manager overseeing the CALEA certification. His Record with the Henderson Police Department is exemplary.

In 2009, he earned his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and also attended the 55th session of the Administrative Officers’ Management Program (AOMP) at NC State University.

Interim Chief Barrow Will continue the excellence of service to the community it has come to know and expect. The partnerships created by retiring Chief Sidwell via the Strategic Plan Action Plans designed to help reduce crime will continue. These partnerships include, but are not limited to the property managers” team, the utility and services providers team, business watch and continued emphasis and expansion of community watch. Additionally, the bi-weekly radio talk program with WIZS will continue.

I have the fullest confidence in Interim Chief Barrow. He is well qualified to help move HPD forward during this interim period. Interim Chief Barrow is quite familiar with the Henderson community, knows its leadership, both formal and informal, has the respect of the Department’s employees and is well trained and able to deal with the needs of the Department and Community.
