This “Yellow Angel Fish” stained glass suncatcher was created by instructor Felecia Carr Young.

Felecia Carr Young of Wake Forest is the instructor for the course, which is among the newest additions to the personal enrichment/continuing education programs offered at the campus. “One of the best birthday gifts I ever received was the stained glass class I took nearly 15 years ago,” Young said. “Before long, I started making stained glass panels and suncatchers for just about everyone I knew and eventually opened my glass studio.”

During the course of three five-hour class meetings, students will learn the basics of creating their own stained glass art, using the copper foil technique devised by Louis Tiffany during the 1880s. Students will create two projects, a suncatcher and a larger window panel, during the course. “Making stained glass starts out a little bit tricky, but my students absolutely fall in love with it over time, and it becomes their new hobby!” Young said. She added that no glass working experience is required.

Classes are scheduled to be held in room F206 on the campus, located on N.C. 56 just west of Louisburg.

The cost of this course is $54. Registration in advance is required. For more information, call the Franklin Campus at (919) 496-1567.
