VGCC Art students exhibit their work

portraitshow2014Vance-Granville Community College is holding an art show consisting of works by students in Portrait Painting continuing education classes taught by Leslie Johnson of Oxford. The portraits are displayed in the lobby on the first floor of Building 7 on the college’s Main Campus in Vance County, Friday, Jan. 10 through Wednesday, Jan. 15. The 12 artists whose paintings are featured in the exhibition hail from Vance, Granville, Franklin, Warren and Halifax counties and include participants in classes held over the past two years.

Another of Johnson’s Portrait Painting classes will begin Feb. 5 and continue through April 9, on Wednesdays from 2 until 5 p.m. The cost of the class is $70, and the deadline to register is Jan. 28. The instructor paints portraits professionally and has taught portrait painting at VGCC for more than a decade. Johnson’s goal is for each student to complete at least one oil portrait by the time he or she completes the course.

Prospective students can now register and pay for this and other personal enrichment courses online (www.vgcc.edu/ped). For more information, contact Theresa Somerville at (252) 738-3427 or ped@vgcc.edu.
