Morning round still open for VGCC Golf Tournament on May 6

The 30th annual Vance-Granville Community College Endowment Fund Golf Tournament will be held at the Henderson Country Club on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. All event proceeds support the mission of the college, the Endowment Fund and student scholarships.

The afternoon round is now full, tournament organizers have announced, but slots are still available for golfers in the morning round.

The morning round begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The format is four-person “Captain’s Choice Super Ball.” Golfers can form their own teams of four, or sign up and be put on a team. Teams will be handicapped based on handicaps supplied by each player.

The cost for one golfer to enter the morning round of the tournament is $125. That entry fee includes greens fees, cart, gift bag, and practice balls, as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner (immediately following the afternoon round), which will be served in the HCC clubhouse. A silent auction and door prize drawings will be held in conjunction with dinner.

As an added bonus, golfers who sign up for the morning round may also play for free at Kerr Lake Country Club during the afternoon.

Trophies will be awarded for first through third place teams in both rounds. Other prizes will be given for “closest to the pin” and “longest drive.” A particular hole-in-one will be rewarded with a new car, courtesy of Charles Boyd Chevrolet-Cadillac-Buick-GMC, Inc. There will also be a “50/50 Putting Contest” on the 18th green. The golfer who makes the putt, or comes closest, will win half of the accumulated $5 entry fees for that contest. A new feature this year is the “Beat the Pro” contest, in which players can choose to challenge the HCC golf pro, John Michael, to see who can hit the ball closest to the pin on a certain par-3 hole. A player who beats the pro will receive additional tickets in a raffle to win the “grand” door prize later in the evening.

Businesses and individuals can take advantage of tournament sponsorship opportunities at various levels. Businesses may also donate products or premium items featuring the company’s logo to be placed in golfers’ gift bags, or to be given as door prizes.

Players can now register online at golf.vgcc.edu. For more information, contact Kay Currin at currink@vgcc.edu or (252) 738-3409.
