The Vance County Appearance Commission, in partnership with the Henderson Community Appearance Commission, is again sponsoring the Henderson-Vance Spring Litter Sweep Week, April 21-26, and seeking volunteers to participate in clean-up efforts to improve the appearance of our county around homes, businesses, churches, schools, in neighborhoods and subdivisions and along city streets and county roadways.
Please consider becoming involved in this effort. The Appearance Commission groups are hoping to increase participation from the approximately 300 volunteers who were involved last year in the Spring Litter Sweep Week. They are hoping that home owners, business owners, families, individuals, church groups, school groups, civic organizations, community watch groups, garden clubs, youth groups and more will want to be a part of this sixth-year event.
The Spring Litter Sweep Week is being observed in conjunction with the N.C. Spring Litter Sweep scheduled for the last two weeks in April. For the Spring Litter Sweep Week, supplies of the large, orange trash and recycling bags, gloves and orange, safety vests can be picked up by those who want to clean up during the week at the Vance County Schools’ Administrative Services Center on Graham Avenue and the City Operations Center on Beckford Drive in Henderson. The supplies are available at the two locations this week.
A free hot dog lunch will be provided again this year for all Spring Litter Sweep volunteers in the City Operations Center beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. The lunch again is being sponsored by Jason Brown and his Wisdom for Life Ministry, as well as the “Fruit of the Spirit” community group. Tickets for the free lunch will be distributed to Litter Sweep participants as they receive their Litter Sweep supplies.
