VGCC holds Fall Semester New Student Orientation in June and July

Throughout June and July, Vance-Granville Community College is holding orientation sessions for new students who are enrolling for the Fall 2014 semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 18. Attending an orientation session is required for all new students in any of the college’s curriculum programs, and for students who are returning to VGCC after being away for three or more years. Students must also meet with an advisor or counselor before registering for classes.

Orientation sessions are scheduled to be held on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County on Tuesday, June 3 at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, June 4 at 9 a.m. and at 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, June 17 at 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, June 24 at 5:30 p.m.; Tuesday, July 8 at 9 a.m. and at 2 p.m.; Tuesday, July 22 at 2 p.m.; and Wednesday, July 23 at 9 a.m. and at 5:30 p.m.

The Franklin County Campus near Louisburg will offer orientation sessions on Wednesday, June 4 at 2 p.m.; Thursday, July 10 at 9 a.m. and at 5 p.m.; and Tuesday, July 29 at 9 a.m. and at 5 p.m.

Orientation sessions are scheduled at VGCC’s South Campus (between Creedmoor and Butner) on Wednesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m.; Thursday, June 19 at 10 a.m.; Thursday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m.; and Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m.

The Warren County Campus in Warrenton will hold orientation sessions on Wednesday, June 11 at 2 p.m. and Wednesday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m.

At orientation sessions, new arrivals to VGCC will learn where to find resources on campus and online, including how to register for classes through WebAdvisor. Immediately following a general orientation session, each student will meet with an academic advisor and have the opportunity to pre-register for classes the same day. This year, VGCC is scheduling more orientation sessions with fewer student slots, so that each student may receive additional personal attention. Students must sign up for an orientation/advising session in advance by visiting orientation.vgcc.edu.

Registration for fall classes will open on June 9 and will end on July 31. College officials advise students to apply for admission, attend orientation/advising, and register for classes as early as possible. The upcoming semester’s course schedule is now available online at schedules.vgcc.edu.

Anyone with questions about registration at Vance-Granville should call the college’s Main Campus at (252) 492-2061 or visit any campus for more information.

FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

Prospective students interested in seeking financial assistance are encouraged to immediately complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov and to visit the VGCC Financial Aid Office.

Eligible students may receive Pell Grants ranging from $602 to $5,730. Students may also qualify for other college or state funds. The Financial Aid Office recommends completing the FAFSA and all financial aid documents by July 17. In order for a student to charge tuition, fees, and books to financial aid awards, the application must be processed entirely prior to the tuition payment deadline of July 31. Students with preschool-age children may receive financial assistance to help pay for child care, and applications for this help are also available at the Financial Aid Office.

Vance-Granville Community College is not participating in the Federal Direct Loan Program, also known as the William D. Ford loan program. Students should continue to apply for federal, state, and institutional aid programs, and should talk with VGCC staff about additional resources such as scholarships and the Tuition Payment Plan.

For more details regarding financial assistance, visit the Financial Aid Office in Room 8215 on Main Campus or call (252) 738-3280.

HELP FOR VETERANS

Military veterans who wish to use their Veterans’ Education benefits may contact the Financial Aid Office at (252) 738-3421. Veterans should check with Financial Aid to see if the programs in which they are interested are covered.
