Downtown Event – St. Baldrick’s – Cops Against Childhood Cancer – Saturday, May 31st, 2014

In keeping with the long-standing and selfless commitment to the citizens we serve, the Henderson Police Department, in conjunction with the Fraternal Order of Police-Hubert E. Tyndall Lodge #33, and the Henderson-Vance Downtown Development Commission, is supporting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and offering our personal and professional support by hosting “Cops Against Childhood Cancer”. This event will contribute to the foundation whose goal and focus is funding research for childhood cancer.

More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease. St. Baldrick’s “Shaving Events” are held throughout the U.S. and have raised more than $100 Million Dollars! The lives of children are being changed dramatically through the support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

You can be a part of this effort by attending and participating in the 1st annual Hubert E. Tyndall F.O.P. St. Baldrick’s event. Visit the website at www.stbaldricks.org, search for the Henderson Police Department. During the event we will have a multitude of vendors and entertainment for all ages. We will celebrate several survivors and honor those who fought bravely. I also encourage our area citizens to notify us of anyone they know of that we can honor at our next event.

Every dollar makes a difference in the life of a child who really needs our help. Festivities will begin at 10:00 am with a sidewalk sale from our Downtown Henderson merchants. Head Shaving will begin at 1:00 pm on center stage, which will be located near Breckenridge Street. We are also hosting a “Cornhole” tournament that will begin at 10:00 am. Grand Prizes include a $350 Yeti cooler, (2) two tickets to see Tim McGraw (both donated by Vanco Equipment), and (1) one year’s worth of Chick-fil-a (donated by Chick-fil-a of Henderson).

Our donations thus far have been plentiful and extremely generous. I am so proud of the community I call home. I implore everyone who reads this to come out and participate in a full day of community alliance. Please visit the website to view the names, organizations, and business that donated.

Kudos to Chief of Police Marcus Barrow & the rest of the men/women who came out to support a very worthwhile event. I have a friend whose son was diagnosed w/cancer at age 3 1/2. When i asked him how many local elected officials were there and his reply was that he didn’t see anyone. He was very complimentary of Chief Barrow as well as Chief Coley from over in Oxford. I was told there were kids there w/smiles on their faces. Job Well Done HPD and OPD……last total I heard from my buddy was over 13k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
